About GRANT

Greyhound Rehoming Association Northern Territory (GRANT) was established in 2012. GRANT is an independent local charity that focusses on finding loving homes for retired race dogs. We re-home around 50 retired Greyhounds every year each year and facilitate regular social events to bring the community together and provide education on the breed. GRANT is 100% run by volunteers.

Meet the Committee

(Under Update - Similar like trying to get your greyhound out of bed… it will take a little time)

Fiona, President

I moved to Darwin in 2017, and it was at the Nightcliff Seabreeze festival that year that I came across the GRANT stall. I wasn't in a position to adopt a dog at the time but I often thought about the beautiful hounds I saw that day, and I regularly checked the GRANT website just to look at photos of the dogs who were up for adoption.

Fast forward three years, and I adopted my beautiful boy Bernie. Soon after, I joined the GRANT committee as a general member, helping out with whatever needed doing and getting to know more about greyhounds and the transition from professional athlete to professional couch potato. I was elected President in 2021. I also adopted Gino in 2021, a foster fail who stole Bernie and my hearts.

One of my main roles as president is to build and strengthen relationships with our partners who help us to get these dogs ready for living the pet life. I truly love working with local businesses who are passionate about animal welfare, and ensuring both hounds and humans have the knowledge and tools they need to enjoy life together.

I love being part of the GRANT team, and the wider Darwin greyhound community. It is so rewarding to see the dogs go to good homes, and then to catch up with them at our monthly walks and see them living their best lives.

Kerin, Secretary

I have lived in Darwin for nearly 30 years. I enjoy so much of what it has to offer including the Nightcliff foreshore where, about  4 years ago, I stumbled across a GRANT community event. I met some of the GRANT volunteers there and a couple of greyhounds that were in the foster care program at the time.  Since then, I have fostered many greyhounds through the GRANT foster care program which has been incredibly rewarding, both in learning about these beautiful dogs and in seeing them welcomed into people’s homes as a new family member.

adam, committee member

I joined the committee in 2023 after previously working in the animal welfare industry. I adopted my greyhound, Robbie, through the GRANT program in 2021.

I have professional experience across the not-for-profit, private and public sectors. I am passionate about using my skills and experience to influence long-term sustainable change for greyhounds in the Northern Territory.

trish, greyhound matchmaker

I’m mum to my sweet 14 year old greyhound, Elanore. We moved up to Darwin 3 years ago and started volunteering with GRANT in 2023.

Volunteering as Greyhound match maker is super fun and satisfying being able to match the right hound to the right owner.

GRANT’s strong commitment to providing the hound it's best forever home matches my personal values. Elanore and I were lucky enough to have this process afforded to us at adoption and here we are 8 years later.

If you cross paths with me, I will be the one patting and talking to your dog.

sam, social media

I moved to Darwin, from Sydney about 5 years ago. After following GRANT on social media for a while, I finally met the fabulous volunteers at the Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival in 2023 and joined the committee later that year.

I don’t have a greyhound myself so I love getting to meet our fantastic top end greyhound community and play with the gorgeous dogs at our monthly walks.
